I live in NY State, and have been writing and discussing the absolute stupidity of our hilariously named Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). One must wonder exactly what "Community" in NYS is being "Protected" via this insultingly ridiculous legislation. $Big $Investors who support the politicians no doubt. But our governor (either ignorant or arrogant) refuses to own-up to the problem. `What is clear is that the people who wrote this legislation and the people who supported it are absolutely incompetent technically. It doesn't say much for our Engineering Schools (UB, RIT, RPI, Union, Cornell, ...) that NOBODY in academia has spoken up. Even a second-year physics or engineering student should have known the impossibility of CLCPA.

NY’s Climate Act never underwent 1) a rigorous technical evaluation or 2) a realistic cost-benefit analysis. It was always an exercise in virtue-signaling. Now a judge has ruled that NY must make good on its legal obligations; either the state has to change (or repeal) the Act, or we will be required to fully implement it, with obviously disastrous results. Hochul is working furiously to delay any action until after the election; she won’t own her part in wholeheartedly embracing Cuomo’s idiocy.

As a progressive Democrat, I’m thoroughly sick of my party’s irrational attachment to “renewables” and net zero. Let’s get real for a moment: NYS generates 0.4% of global emissions. Nothing we do is going to result in a measurable change to our climate; all we’re doing is making energy unaffordable and bankrupting residents while depriving them of a reliable electric supply.
